Logitech Confirms HomeKit Secure Video Coming to Circle 2 Wired Cameras This Year

Today, Logitech, manufacturer of the HomeKit compatible Circle 2 camera has broken their silence about HomeKit Secure Video support. The feature, which was unveiled by Apple at WWDC 2019, enables iCloud video recording and local image processing to provide a more secure method of storage for users. Logitech, along with Netatmo and Eufy were announced as partners for the HomeKit Secure Video launch, and were joined recently by Robin Telecom, makers of the only HomeKit enabled video doorbell. Netatmo was quick to announce support for the new service, and has promised that their Welcome Indoor Camera, Presence Outdoor Camera and the Smart Video Doorbell will be upgraded this year.

Logitech has taken to their community forums today, to announce that the Circle 2 camera will indeed be receiving a firmware update as well to enable HomeKit Secure Video. The existence of the announcement forum post was shared by a member of Logitech’s representatives on the r/HomeKit subreddit. While additional details were not shared by Logitech, the company did state that support would be limited to the wired version of the Circle 2 Camera, which uses a USB connection to provide power to the camera itself. The wired version does utilize Wi-Fi connectivity for its communications, but does require the hardwired power connection, and the battery version of the Circle 2 does not support HomeKit.

β€œCircle 2 Wired Cameras will support HomeKit Secure Video with a free firmware update later this year – stay tuned for more details.”

Logitechs support of their existing camera is a great addition to an already solid camera. The Circle 2 earns praise for their durability as they are designed for both indoor and outdoor use, and can provide up to 1080p video. The camera, which retails for $179, can frequently be found near the $129 range, and if you have a local Sam’s Club, a bundle which includes 2 wired cameras, and 1 battery camera may be able to be found for just $199 making it a great way to add some security to your home.
