Rainmachine Adds HomeKit Support To Touch HD 12 & 16 Sprinkler Controllers

Rainmachine, which recently jumped on the HomeKit bandwagon by updating its Pro models of sprinkler controllers is back today with another round of updates making even more products HomeKit compatible.Β Spotted on redditΒ by u/Zonk-er, the company made the announcement on their website this morning, which states that a beta firmware update is now available for the company’s Touch HD 12 & 16 models. Even though this new release is marked as a beta, the company states that this firmware will enable HomeKit support for devices “right out of the box”.

The Touch HD line from Rainmachine is the company’s top of the line connected sprinkler controller offering several different distinctions from the Pro models. Starting with a larger overall footprint, the Touch HD features a large 4.3″ touchscreen display that supports taps and swipes. The expanded display includes additional information such as a more robust weather forecast, and precipitation chances. For connectivity, the Touch HD line includes support for 5ghz networks, which is a rarity in HomeKit land. Unfortunately the Touch HD does not support a wired ethernet connection like the Pro models.

For those with a Touch HD model already set up, you can follow these steps provided by Rainmachine to update yours to support HomeKit:

With the release of the latest beta firmware update (v4.0.1125) for RainMachine Touch HD-12/16 we added Apple HomeKit support.

Once the beta firmware is installed on the RainMachine Touch HD-12/16, go and tap on:

Settings – System – Internet of Things – Apple HomeKit – Enter pairing mode

The Apple HomeKit code and QR will be generated on the RainMachine Touch HD-12/16 screen and all you have to do is to scan it with the Apple iPhone/iPad camera using Apple Home app.

The Rainmachine Touch HD 12 and 16 models are available now on Rainmachine’s website, or at various retailers such asΒ Amazon. The Touch HD 12 model retails forΒ $259, and the Touch HD 16 model has a suggested retail price of $299. Both models, like all of the company’s line do not require any subscriptions, and are simply a one time purchase with no hidden fees. While the company has added HomeKit support for two different, existing models, it should be noted that the Mini 8 line will not be receiving an update. In addition theΒ Rainmachine iOS AppΒ is available to download for free on the App Store.
