Logitech, makers of the Logi Circle 2 HomeKit camera, has announced that support for HomeKit Secure Video is rolling out today. The announcement makes Logitech the first to support the feature, which was originally announced back in June at Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference in San Jose. The update works for the wired version of the Logi Circle 2 only, as it’s battery powered version does not support HomeKit.
Updating a camera requires version 3.4.5 of the Logi Circle app, which is not yet available, but should be rolling out by the end of the day. According to Logitech, users will need to opt into a beta firmware update that can be found by following these steps:
- Tap settings
- Tap Smart Home Integrations
- Tap Apple HomeKit
- Tap Beta: Convert to support HomeKit Secure Video
Logitech warns that if users convert to HomeKit Secure Video, they will no longer be able to use the Logi Circle app, or on other platforms such as Android or on the web. If you currently have a Circle Safe subscription for your camera, the auto-renewal option will be stopped during this process. Also, if you want to restore access to the Logi Circle app, you will need to contact Logitech’s customer support line, as it is not a process that can be done on your own.
Logitech’s Circle 2 wired camera is currently available at various outlets such as Amazon, and has a retail price of $179.99, but it can often be found at a lower price. We reviewed the camera earlier this year, and consider it to be the best HomeKit camera available, due to its weather resistance, performance, and unique mounting accessories. We are standing by for the app update, and will post a hands on once the feature is available for us.
What do you think of the Logitech Circle 2 with this announcement? Are you going to purchase one now specifically for this feature? Or are you going to skip out on HomeKit Secure Video due to the loss of access through the Circle app? Let us know in the comments below, or on Twitter, @HomeKit_Hero.
