Verizon Router Yellow Light – Fix Fios Router Yellow Light

You must be wondering why the yellow light on your Verizon Fios router keeps flashing. Stay tuned to find out why Verizon router yellow light is on and what’s the meaning of it.

Verizon Fios is an all-in-one service provider for telephones, mobile networks, and broadband internet. It provides services over fiber optical networks in parts of the UK and America. The company has reported steady growth over time and currently provides services to more than 10% of the American population.

Verizon provides its own wireless router to its internet subscribers. The router which has an intuitive front panel houses a number of indicators to let the users know the current state of the router. These indications are in form of colorful lights – Red, green, yellow, blue, and white.

Each light reflects a specific function of the router. This helps users to identify the current operation being performed by the router as well as problems with the router/internet if any.

Many users have complained about the constantly blinking Verizon Fios router yellow light. In this discussion, I am going to talk about everything related to the flashing lights on the router. I will also explain how can fix the issue.

Let’s begin.

Why is There A Yellow Light on Verizon Router

Before we jump on to the yellow light issue, let’s talk about various indicators on the Fios router and their respective meanings. As I stated earlier, there are several color indicator that shows a certain state of the router. This table will make things more clear for you:

Indicator Color Status
No Color Router is turned off
Red ◯Slow Blink – Pairing has failed
Fast Blink – Router is overheatingSolid – Hardware/system-related issue
Green ◯Wi-Fi is switched off
Yellow ◯Internet Connection is not available
Blue ◯Slow Blink – Router is in pairing modeSolid – Successfully paired
WhiteFast Blink – Router is starting (boot)Solid – Router/Internet is working fine

Of course, there is no flashing light on Fios router when it’s turned off and not in function.

White Light

The moment you turn the router on, you will see the white light flashing fast. This shows that the router is booting and setting up the connection.

If the white light stays steady after a while, it means that the router is active and functioning well and is connected to an active internet service.

Blue Light

The blue light flashes when you press the WPS button on your router to set an internet connection. If the light is blinking fast, it means the router is in pairing mode.

When the pairing/connection is successfully established, the blue light will go steady.

Green Light

If the green light is flashing on your router, it’s because the Wi-Fi is turned off. You can easily troubleshoot this issue via the My Fios application on your phone. Simply go to network settings and turn on the Wi-Fi from there.

Red Light

If there is a red light illuminated on your Fios router, it’s never a good sign, unfortunately.

A slow blinking red light shows that the Wi-Fi connection set up (pairing) has failed. A fast blinking red light indicates the overheating of the router.

If there is a steady red light on, there is a hardware issue with your router or the system has failed to connect to the network.

Yellow Light

The yellow light flashes on the router when there is no internet connection. Yes, we all have faced this dreaded situation many times with routers.

Fios Router Yellow Light: How to Fix

Let’s see what can you do to fix the problem:

Reboot the Router

Sometimes the trinkets solutions are the simplest ones, especially with gadgets. Before you start troubleshooting, it’s only fair to reboot the router once. Rebooting resets all the settings and gives a fresh start to the router and sometimes it can solve the yellow light issue as well.

Here is how you can reboot the Fios router properly:

  • Unplug the router from the power source.
  • Detach the Ethernet/coax cables and wait for at least 3 minutes and then turn it back on.
  • Wait for further a minute while the router sets up.
  • Check if the yellow light is still on.

Tip: To force reboot the router, you can also use the WPS key located on the front panel. Press and hold the WPS switch for at least 10 seconds to reboot the router.

Check the Cables

It’s also a good idea to check the back of your router. Over time, the cables may suffer wear & tear, eventually interrupting the signal transmission to your router.

Carefully examine the ethernet/coax cables and the slots they are attached to. Also, check the quality of cables, whether they need a replacement or not.

Unplug all the cables and reattach them after 1 minute and repeat the power cycle.

Check for Overheating

Sometimes the router refuses the connection due to exceeding temperatures. Check if your router is overheating. If yes, turn it off, unplug it from the power source, and let it rest for at least 20-30 minutes.

Also, consider moving the router to the colder part of your house. Make sure it maintains the required distance to build the connection to your devices.

Factory Reset

If you are still unable to locate the issue, it’s time to reset your router. Take the following steps:

  • On the back of the router, look for the Reset switch.
  • You will need a sharp/pointed tool to push the reset button. You can use a paperclip or a toothpick. Do not use a too sharp object like a pin.
  • Press and hold the reset button for at least 10-15 seconds while the router is still on.
  • The router will be reset to factory settings. Wait for it to power back on.

Please remember that the factory reset will:
Erase all your custom settings from the router.

Reset the router username and password as shown on the label on the router.

Will delete all your personal wireless settings such as the Wi-Fi name and password.

Make the Wi-Fi network inaccessible until you reconfigure the router with the new network settings.
