If you’ve ever noticed that the Nest says “Delayed,” this article will explain what it means and how you can troubleshoot the issue:

The Nest delayed message can be caused by a number of different issues. It’s important to know that it could also be an unrelated hardware issue and not related to the Nest app or your Wi-Fi network.

If you are experiencing this issue, try these steps:

  • Reboot your router or modem.
  • Check that the Nest Secure alarm system is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your phone and other devices (including phones and tablets) in your home.
  • Make sure that Bluetooth is turned OFF on both the Nest Secure alarm system and on all of your mobile devices (phones and tablets).

How to fix Nest Delay issue?

Start by checking the Nest app to see if it has any updates. To do so, tap the three lines on your phone and then go to Settings > System Updates > Check Now. If there’s an update available, install it and try again. You may need to restart your phone before trying this again; if so, restarting will be a good idea anyway as a way of clearing out any potential bugs or other issues that could be causing the problem in the first place.

If your Nest says delayed follow these steps to troubleshoot.

If your Nest thermostat continues to say “Delayed” and you’ve checked all of the above, here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot:

  • Reset the thermostat. Make sure that power is off at the circuit breakers or fuse box, then press and hold the Nest button until it blinks blue four times (or until it lights up orange). Then press and hold again until it blinks blue five times (or until it lights up orange).
  • Make sure that your internet connection is working properly. If there’s no Wi-Fi connection or if there’s a problem with your router, this could cause delayed reporting from the Nest thermostat. Try resetting your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in again. If that doesn’t help, consider contacting your ISP for assistance or testing another device such as laptop computer or smartphone using same network connection to ensure stability and operation before proceeding with other troubleshooting steps below.

Nest is a great product for home automation and security, but sometimes it can seem like the most frustrating thing in the world. If your Nest says delayed then there are steps you can take to fix this issue. First make sure that your internet connection is working properly and then try rebooting the Nest Protect device or resetting the network settings on your router by turning off power for 30 seconds before turning it back on again.
